AMOTHERM: AMONN’s range dedicated to passive fire protection expands with increasingly high-performance, state-of-the-art technical solutions

Reference standard: UNI EN 1364-1:2015  Reaction to fire tests for floorings – Part 1: Determination of the burning behaviour using a radiant heat source – Part 1: Walls

Protected element: Vertical non-load-bearing element named “horizontal joint wall in lightweight prefabricated panels protected with intumescent paint on the face exposed to fire

Element type: Prefabricated wall

Protective system: AMOTHERM Concrete WB

Consumption: 1.2 kg/m²

Obtained result: EI 120

UNI EN 1364-1 is the cogent reference standard that allows verification of the performance of a protective applied on non-load-bearing vertical walls. In the specific case of prefabricated walls, which are very common and widespread elements in modern industrial construction, there are two relevant aspects that the fire test verifies in detail: the sealing of the horizontal joint and the effects of the expanded polystyrene lightening contained within the panels.

A purely analytical approach to the problem, which completely excludes the use of fire tests, brings with it an extreme simplification of the mechanical and thermal dynamics that develop during the fire, with possible repercussions on the safety of the intervention. Having a test conducted with the ISO 834 heating curve and on full-scale panels is of great contribution to fire risk mitigation.

Benefits/implications

With this further experimentation, Amotherm Concrete WB assumes a primary role as a reference product for the treatment of reinforced concrete surfaces, prestressed concrete with and without lightening. Only one product qualified for both structural UNI EN 13381-3:2015 and partitioning UNI EN 1364-1:2015.
